April Hunter : With Underroos. I think I’ve been doing it my entire life. I called it “dressing in costume” before it was called cosplay.
Leo Nocedo : What was your first cosplay?
April Hunter : Lara Croft. My last was Keyleth.
Leo Nocedo : What are your next 3 cosplay plans?
April Hunter : Depends on what the fans send or encourage.
Leo Nocedo : Have you ever been in a cosplay contest?
April Hunter : No, but I’m a cosplay judge.
Leo Leo Nocedo : : Do you prefer to do photoshoots at cons or at specific locations?
April Hunter : I like both.
Leo Nocedo : Is there a type of character you cosplay frequently?
April Hunter : Jessica Rabbit or any type of Viking/warrior, like Red Sonja.
April Hunter : Poison Ivy. It was miserable, but looked badass.
Leo Nocedo : What are your top 3 craftsmanship tips?
April Hunter : I don’t know if they’re craftsmanship tips, but always carry a spare pair of shoes, some glue, black duct tape and a couple safety pins with you!
April Hunter : Lady Punisher
Leo Nocedo : What is your worst cosplay “horror” story?
April Hunter : Uh…the time I was in a sexy catsuit that had a hidden zipper .
April Hunter : The time a toddler reached over and grabbed my boob as “Red Sonja” was posing with him at Wizard World. That became a “Bravery…just reach out and grab it” meme that went viral.
April Hunter : Stormtroopers photobombing my photo ops. You wouldn’t think they’d have such decent aim but they managed.
Leo Nocedo : What is your favorite cosplay photo of yourself?
April Hunter :I have worked with so many amazing photographers, it’s hard to say. I am partial to Thundra, but I love my Viking photos, too.
April Hunter : Etsy.
Leo Nocedo : Do you prefer to buy pre-styled wigs or style your own?
April Hunter :I generally don’t wear wigs…I mostly stick to redheaded characters. Thankfully, there’s a plethora of fantastic gingers to choose from. But I live in FL and it’s hot. Cosplay in general is very warm with the boots, gloves, unbreathable materials. A wig would be miserable.
Leo Nocedo : Have you ever had someone mistake you for a different character?
Leo Nocedo : List all the cosplays you’ve done.
April Hunter :OMG. LOL. Just…every redheaded character for the most part except Scarlet Witch, Starfire, Madusa and a few others.
Leo Nocedo : Do you prefer cosplaying characters with props, or characters that you don’t need to carry a prop around all day?
April Hunter :Anything with a weapon works for me.
Leo Nocedo : Have you ever lost a cosplay piece at a con?
April Hunter :Thankfully, no. But I’ve ripped and broken them.
Leo Nocedo : Have you ever bought a cosplay piece at a con?
April Hunter :No, but I have at Ren Faires.
Leo Nocedo : Do you prefer to cosplay solo or in a group?
April Hunter :Either. Duos are fun.
Leo Nocedo : Have you ever done a cosplay panel?
April Hunter : Yes, at MegaCon.
Leo Nocedo :Do you prefer to buy or make cosplays?
April Hunter : Buy the main part…and then make or put together the rest.
Leo Nocedo : If you could tell your past self anything about cosplay, what would you say?
April Hunter :“They’re going to call dressing up something weird in the future…it’s from Japan. ‘Cosplay’. Yeah. Really. Maybe come up with a better name and get it out there ahead of time, ok?”
Leo Nocedo : What is your ultimate dream cosplay?
April Hunter : I’ve been wanting to do Starfire for a long time.
Leo Nocedo : What’s the most difficult cosplay you’ve ever done? (Craftsmanship, wearing of, ect)
April Hunter : A Day of the Dead Mermaid.
Leo Nocedo : What’s the most difficult character makeup you’ve done?
April Hunter : She Hulk. I got the wrong green base and it was layer after layer that just wasn’t covering or blending right.
Leo Nocedo : What, in your opinion, makes a cosplayer a “pro” cosplayer?
April Hunter :The same thing that makes an athlete a pro: Getting paid to do it.
Leo Nocedo : What is your favorite part of cosplaying?
April Hunter : It’s just fun.
Leo Nocedo : Have you cosplayed with your pet?
April Hunter :Yes. Yes, I have. It turned out fabulous.
