Emily Lander : I had always had an interest in cosplay, but my roots are in SFX makeup and I expanded to cosplay from there.
Leo Nocedo : What was your first cosplay?
Emily Lander : Shego from Kim Possible.
Leo Nocedo : What are your next 3 cosplay plans?
Emily Lander : I don’t have plans to cosplay myself, however I’ve been branching out into body painting/airbrushing.
Leo Nocedo : Have you ever been in a cosplay contest?
Emily Lander : No, I have horrible stage fright.
Leo Nocedo : Do you prefer sewing, armor making, or wig working?
Emily Lander : Wig working, but I’ve altered cosplays as well.
Leo Nocedo : Do you prefer to do photoshoots at cons or at specific locations?
Emily Lander : I’ve only ever done photo shoots at cons.
Leo Nocedo : Is there a type of character you cosplay frequently?
Emily Lander : Disney villains.
Leo Nocedo : Do you have any favorite cosplayers?
Emily Lander : I’ve been inspired by many, but I couldn’t pick a favorite.
Leo Nocedo : What’s the most detailed cosplay you’ve ever done?
Emily Lander : Gender-bend Hellboy at Holmat was probably my most detailed cosplay.
Leo Nocedo : What is your favorite cosplay you’ve done?
Emily Lander :Gender-bend Hellboy.
Leo Nocedo :What is your worst cosplay “horror” story?
Emily Lander :While cosplaying “Hell girl,” the boning in my corset snapped, during a photoshoot and impaled my side. I wasn’t able to get the corset off until an hour or so later.
Leo Nocedo :Have you ever cosplayed with a family member?
Emily Lander : No, my family isn’t into it.
Leo Nocedo :What is your favorite cosplay photo of yourself? (I’ll post the photo below.)
Leo Nocedo : Do you prefer to buy pre-styled wigs or style your own?
Emily Lander : Depends on the character, but I do enjoy styling my own.
Leo Nocedo : Have you ever had someone mistake you for a different character?
Emily Lander : Yes! I’ve done casual Shego and was mistaken for an anime character, that I had never heard of before.
Leo Nocedo : List all the cosplays you’ve done.
Emily Lander : Shego, Hell Girl, Velma, Sweeney Todd, Beetlejuice, Cruella De Vil.
Leo Nocedo : What’s the biggest con you’ve cosplayed at?
Emily Lander : Holiday Matsuri.
Leo Nocedo : Do you prefer cosplaying characters with props, or characters that you don’t need to carry a prop around all day?
Emily Lander : Without props. I’m lazy.
Leo Nocedo : Have you ever lost a cosplay piece at a con?
Emily Lander : No, but I’ve had parts of a cosplay stolen.
Leo Nocedo : Do you prefer to cosplay solo or in a group?
Emily Lander : Usually solo, but I’m not opposed to group cosplays.
Leo Nocedo : If you had a chance to meet your all-time favorite cosplayer, what would you say to them?
Emily Lander :Thank you for inspiring me to keep going.
Leo Nocedo : Have you ever done a cosplay panel?
A: yes, I’ve done a handful of SFX and cosplay makeup 101 panels.
Leo Nocedo : Do you prefer to buy or make cosplays?
Emily Lander : I spend the majority of my time on the makeup, so most of my physical cosplays are purchased, thrifted and altered.
Leo Nocedo :If you could tell your past self anything about cosplay, what would you say?
Emily Lander : Don’t be afraid to fail, you’re still learning.
Leo Nocedo : What is your ultimate dream cosplay?
A: A fully armored Zarya from the Blizzard game Overwatch.
Leo Nocedo : What’s the most difficult cosplay you’ve ever done? (Craftsmanship, wearing of, ect)
Emily Lander : Hellboy was difficult due to the body paint.
Leo Nocedo : What’s the most difficult character makeup you’ve done?
Emily Lander : Hellboy for sure. 60% of my body was covered in red paint and contoured.
Leo Nocedo : What, in your opinion, makes a cosplayer a “pro” cosplayer?
Emily Lander : Their level of dedication to their cosplay and helping other’s.
Leo Nocedo :What is your favorite part of cosplaying?
Emily Lander :seeing other’s excitement and joy at cons, making new friends, etc.

Emily Lander : Invest in better corsets, they’re always worth it. Take more time and consideration before cosplaying a character.
