30SHARESAll ten volumes of the critically acclaimed, New York Times bestselling
East of West first launched to critical-acclaim in 2013 and took the industry by storm with its unique mashup of science-fiction and western genre sensibilities. The series hit shelves hot on the heels of Hickman and Dragotta’s successful Fantastic Four run and gained momentum with readers, selling-out and going back to print multiple times. East of West went on to garner a multitude of accolades, including an Eisner Award nomination in the Best Continuing Series category. To date, the series has sold over 1.5 million copies across all formats and has been translated into Spanish, Portuguese, French, Hungarian, Italian, and Polish.
East of West is a Dystopian, speculative history story—similar in approach to Phillip K. Dick’s The Man in High Castle—but imagines a future United States in 2064 that follows an alternate timeline wherein the Civil War never ended. In it, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse roam the Earth, signaling the End Times for humanity, and the best hope for life, lies in Death.
“I knew from the first time I worked with Nick that we were creatively simpatico, but as East of West unfolded, I think we both were surprised and delighted at just how magical the book became,” said Hickman. “The bones of the story are pure nostalgia, but its themes are timeless and its view of the world is prescient and more relevant than ever. We’ve both done some pretty work, but this just might be our best.”
Dragotta added: “Working with Jonathan Hickman on East of West was complete freedom and where I found myself as an artist. Collected together for the first time I can see the evolution of my own work, along with my partners in design; Jon, Frank Martin Jr. and Rus Wooton. It’s a story that’s as relevant as when we told it and still looks cool as hell.”
The East of West: The End Times Compendium (ISBN: 978-1534328297) will be available at local comic book shops on Wednesday, February 19 and independent bookstores, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, Indigo, and Waterstones on Tuesday, March 4.

“Jonathan Hickman is a master world builder.” —Bloody Disgusting
“Hickman starts another high-concept series, this one set in a futuristic Old West and starring none other than the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse… Happily, Dragotta’s bloody, gangly art is a great fit—from the eerie white figure of Death and the impish manifestations of Conquest, War, and Famine to the dustpunk marriage of frontier imagery and futuristic technology. Though it’s still in its early throes, this looks to be a seriously entertaining, darkly epic apocalypse in the making.” —Booklist
“Hickman has fused together just about every major genre you can think of to create his most ambitious story to date, and given the skill of the craftsmanship, it will definitely be one to keep an eye on… frequent FF collaborator Nick Dragotta brings East of West to life in surreal fashion… The reborn ‘Three’ Horsemen of the Apocalypse are as vicious as they are deceiving.” —IGN
