Cosplayer Interview

Cosplayer Of The Week: Stephanie May AKA Amazoncosplayer

Leo Nocedo :How did you discover cosplaying?
Stephanie May : Long story short, my first wonder woman outfit for an event was not completed on time, so I decided to wear it to supercon 2018. The reaction from the kids got me hooked. I was also encouraged by some professional cosplayers and actors to do it. I want to add that I always loved dressing up for Halloween.   It was and is by far my favorite holiday.
Leo Nocedo : What was your first cosplay?
Stephanie May : Wonder woman
Leo Nocedo : What are your next 3 cosplay plans?
Stephanie May : I have several more wonder woman versions I am working on, a new red sonja, and black canary to list just 3
Leo Nocedo :Have you ever been in a cosplay contest?
Stephanie May :No
Leo Nocedo : Do you prefer sewing, armor making, or wig working?
Stephanie May : I prefer working with leather or scalemail. Sewing still scares me and weirdly I am the most challenged by it
Leo Nocedo : Do you prefer to do photoshoots at cons or at specific locations?
Stephanie May : I have only had a handful of photoshoots, if that, but I am going to say the photographer matters. If I am comfortable with the photographer, it will translate to a better shot
Leo Nocedo : Is there a type o f character you cosplay frequently?
Stephanie May : Any strong amazonian woman works for me. I am tall and not young so my character choices reflect that
Leo Nocedo : Do you have any favorite cosplayers?
Stephanie May : Too many to list
Leo Nocedo : What’s the most detailed cosplay you’ve ever done?
Stephanie May : My winter wonderland for holiday Matsuri 2018
Leo Nocedo :What are your top 3 craftsmanship tips?
Stephanie May : Patience is key, YouTube is your friend, measure twice (or more) cut once.
Leo Nocedo : What is your favorite cosplay you’ve done?
Stephanie May : Holiday red sonja
Leo Nocedo :What is your worst cosplay “horror” story?
Stephanie May : My winter wonder woman corset took 3 tries. The first two were just not symmetrical enough. Lots and lots of wasted foam 😅 also so many pieces to cut and glue, and sewing in the El wire…it was juat a big project for my first build
Leo Nocedo :What’s your funniest cosplay story?
Stephanie May : Also winter wonder woman…my skirt broke halfway through holiday Matsuri. Luckily I had my regular leather wonder woman skirt with me.
Leo Nocedo :What’s the best in-character interaction you’ve ever had?
Stephanie May : I am going to have to say some of the interactions with the kids. Some of the stories from their parents after would melt your heart
Leo Nocedo :Have you ever cosplayed with a family member?
Stephanie May : No
Leo Nocedo :What is your favorite cosplay photo of yourself?
Stephanie May : The wonder woman bathtub shot. I still can’t believe it is me. It looks like art vs cosplay to me
Leo Nocedo :What are your go-to stores for cosplay materials/full cosplays?
Stephanie May : : For scales-the ring lord, for faux leather-Palazzo fabrics, for wigs and various supplies amazon, leather- the hide house, if i have to use foam- tnt, and finally for fabrics Joanne’s (not all of which are equal)
Leo Nocedo :Do you prefer to buy pre-styled wigs or style your own?
Stephanie May : I style my own
