Ghost Machine Welcomes Brazilian Superstar Artist Ivan Reis To The Team

Ghost Machine, a first-of-its-kind creator-owned and operated media company recently launched at New York Comic Con, revealed the addition of Brazilian superstar artist Ivan Reis, today. Reis and Ghost Machine’s co-founder Geoff Johns took to the stage at CCXP—the largest comic book convention in Latin America—to make the announcement in front of a sold-out crowd of fan attendees.

Reis is recognized as one of the industry’s greatest and most admired artists, having been exclusive to DC Comics for nearly two decades. He is known as one of the main artists for many tentpole titles and modern classics alike, including Green Lantern, Aquaman, Superman, Blackest Night, Brightest Day, and Justice League, a number of which went on to become New York Times bestsellers. His illustrations were instrumental for the 2018 feature film Aquaman, and Reis also serves as associate producer and concept artist for the recently-announced Iemanjá movie from Warner Bros. Brazil. Upon completion of his current commitments, Reis—along with all Ghost Machine’s creators—will be exclusive to the company for his comic book output.

Reis will re-team with Johns, his frequent collaborator on numerous now-iconic DC stories (Sinestro Corps War, Blackest Night, Aquaman) on Hyde Street, an all-new series which will launch Ghost Machine’s horror universe and introduce strange and bizarre characters like Mr. X-Ray. Hyde Street debuts in January’s Ghost Machine #1, which will feature exclusive Hyde Street covers by Reis, before launching later in 2024. Perhaps best described as Blackest Night’s fantastic scope with Twilight Zone’s thought-provoking drama, Hyde Street will continue Reis and Johns’ tradition of epic, character-centered stories with rich and sprawling mythologies surrounding them.

“Continuing our goal to have the most beautiful books on the stands, we at Ghost Machine are proud, privileged and honored to welcome modern-day master, Ivan Reis, to the family. Ivan was at the top of our list for the next creator to join us and we could not be more excited to have him as the newest creator and co-owner,” said Ghost Machine’s creators in a statement.

Ghost Machine creators co-own all the characters and universes developed for their company, sharing in all publishing, media, merchandise, and beyond—a move the creatives of Ghost Machine see as a natural emancipation within the entertainment landscape, allowing them to retain creative control and meaningfully participate in the success of their properties like never before.

The pioneering creator collective is a global best-of-class roster of artists and writers whose award-winning and iconic works include a who’s-who of comic book legends such as Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, The Flash, The Ultimates, Black Lightning and Green Arrow: Jason Fabok, Gary Frank, Bryan Hitch, Geoff Johns, Lamont Magee, Francis Manapul, Brad Meltzer, Ivan Reis, Peter J. Tomasi, and Maytal Zchut.

A two-issue prequel series, Geiger: Ground Zero by Johns and Frank, recently shipped in November and December before Ghost Machine’s first official release in January 2024, Ghost Machine #1, a 64-page special which will introduce its FOUR SHARED UNIVERSES of characters:

1) The Unnamed, revealing a mysterious group of genre heroes from across history, featuring characters and titles like Geiger, Junkyard Joe, Redcoat, and First Ghost. A Geiger series, based on Johns and Frank’s hit comic of the same name, is already in development at Paramount TV with director Justin Simien.

2) Rook: Exodusa sprawling sci-fi epic which takes place in the far future, on a world where every aspect of nature is controlled by technology.

3) The universe of family odysseys centering around the time displaced family, The Rocketfellers, and their friends.

4) Hyde Street, an epic horror universe and the name of one of Ghost Machine’s lead series written by Johns and illustrated by Ivan Reis.

Following Ghost Machine #1, Ghost Machine’s titles will begin shipping in April 2024 with an all-new ongoing Geiger series, Redcoat and Rook: Exodus. Ghost Machine’s titles will be published through Image Comics.
