The Tampa Convention Center was ablaze with excitement from July 5th to 7th as thousands of anime enthusiasts, gamers, and cosplayers gathered for METROCON 2024. This year’s convention promised and delivered an unforgettable experience, filled with performances, immersive gaming experiences, and incredible craftsmanship. 
METRO FIRE SHOW: Bloodlines – A Fiery Extravaganza
The METRO Fire Show returned with a vengeance, presenting Fire Show: Bloodlines. This year’s performance was a dark, fiery journey through the legacy of Dracula, guided by the enigmatic Saint-Germain. The show combined live fire dancing, fire breathing, and choreographed performances set to a captivating soundtrack, creating a sensory spectacle unlike any other.
Inspired by tales such as Castlevania, Hellsing, and Vampire Hunter D, the show delved into the many faces of Dracula and the stories of his offspring. The highlight was undoubtedly the appearance of a twelve-foot-tall fire-breathing dragon, a stunning visual that left the audience in awe. With 200 feet of projected video and a full concert lighting and sound system, the METRO Fire Show was an immersive experience that astounded all who attended.
METROcade – A Gamer’s Paradise
Gaming enthusiasts found their haven in the all-new and improved METROcade. Spanning over 10,000 square feet in Ballroom C, the METROcade featured more consoles, more arcade cabinets, and more games than ever before. Attendees enjoyed a vast array of console games from the US and Japan, including PS4/5, Xbox One/X, and Nintendo Switch, as well as retro setups and rhythm games.
Featured arcade cabinets included classics like Dance Dance Revolution, Mortal Kombat 2, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, and many more. Pinball machines like Black Knight Sword of Rage Pro and Deadpool Pro added to the nostalgic gaming experience. Gamers also had the opportunity to bring their own controllers, ensuring a personalized and hygienic experience.
Cosplay Craftsmanship Competition – Showcasing Talent
The Cosplay Craftsmanship Competition highlighted the incredible skills of makers, crafters, and artists. This competition focused entirely on costume craftsmanship, with entrants being pre-judged by cosplay guests to showcase the smallest details of their work. The runway-style exhibition allowed participants to display their creations to the crowd, culminating in the presentation of awards.
The dedication and talent on display were truly remarkable, with intricate costumes and creative designs that impressed judges and attendees alike. This competition underscored METROCON’s commitment to celebrating the artistry and craftsmanship within the cosplay community.
