Image Comics is pleased to share a sneak peek (a-boo!) of the upcoming Scary Godmother collection. This bestselling, multiple Eisner Award winning comic by Jill Thompson (Wonder Woman, The Sandman) will be brought back to print—for the first time in over two years—from Image Comics as a complete, compendium trade paperback edition hitting shelves in October. It will also include new Scary Godmother stories.
Just in time for Halloween, this compendium features all of fans’ favorite stories as well as a look into the life and brand new adventures at the Scary Godmother’s house.
This fan-favorite series first launched in 1997 to critical acclaim, won Eisner Awards in “Best Title for a Younger Audience” and “Best Painter/Multimedia Artist (Interior)” categories, and was adapted into two hit children’s films titled, Scary Godmother: Halloween Spooktakular and Scary Godmother: The Revenge of Jimmy. The series was also featured in The Spectacular Sisterhood of Superwomen: Awesome Female Characters from Comic Book History by Hope Nicholson. The Scary Godmother series has seen a resurgence in popularity with the TikTok community in particular, driving rediscovery of the title.
Now longtime fans will finally have an opportunity to revisit the iconic, eccentric fairy-witch from start-to-finish when they board the nostalgia bus and journey back to the Frightside to revisit Scary Godmother and her friends Mr. Pettibone, Bug-A-Boo, Hannah, Orson, Max and Ruby the Vampires, Harry the Werewolf, and more.
The perfect read for fans of the campy, goth-influenced animation of Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, Coraline, and Corpse Bride, Scary Godmother is a must-read, all-ages comic for the spooky season.
Scary Godmother Compendium paperback (ISBN: 9781534344464, Lunar Code: 0824IM339) will be available at local comic book shops on Wednesday, October 2 and independent bookstores, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, Indigo, and Waterstones on Tuesday, October 15.
Scary Godmother will also be available across many digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.
