Hi everyone, I’m writing this because I know how scary and confusing it can be when a hurricane is heading straight for us. With Hurricane Milton approaching, many people are scrambling to find gas and a safe place to stay. I’ve been keeping up with all the resources available, and I want to share some tips that might help you and your family.
First, if you’re driving around looking for gas, you’ve probably noticed how tough it’s been to find stations that still have fuel. It’s super frustrating, but there’s something you can do to make it a little easier! GasBuddy has this awesome Real-Time Fuel Availability Tracker. It’s seriously a lifesaver. You can go to their website or use the GasBuddy app on your phone. It shows which gas stations have fuel, which are running low, and which are completely out. People can report updates, so it’s pretty accurate. If you’ve already found gas, please consider reporting it to help others!
As for finding a safe place to stay, Florida has many hurricane shelters set up, but the locations might change depending on the storm. You can go to FloridaDisaster.org to see a list of shelters that are open in your area. They also have information about special needs shelters if you or someone you know needs extra assistance, and pet-friendly shelters, too, in case you’re worried about your furry friends. It’s important to check before heading out to make sure the shelter is open and has space.
I know it’s hard, but we’ve got to stick together and help each other out during times like these. Make sure you’re preparing early, grab supplies, charge your devices, and if you can, help spread the word about these resources. We’re Floridians, and we’ve been through this before—let’s stay safe and take care of one another!
