Dragons of Fate

Written by: Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman

2023

Dragons of Fate is an absolutely fantastic fantasy, an incredible thrill for fans of Dungeons and Dragons.

Dragons of Fate is written for Dragonlance fans. However, for anyone interested in the world created by Weis and Hickman, inspired by their own DnD campaign, this novel continues to pull readers in with plot twist after plot twist.

Storytelling

I absolutely loved this book. This world means so much to me that I just can’t help but love it. So maybe I’m a slight bias.

This series, including this novel, was written for Dragonlance fans. But Weis and Hickman did a fantastic job highlighting and recapping some of the more critical moments in the Dragonlance universe.

They brought back the infamous and brilliant Neutral Evil Raistlin (one of my favorites) and Sturm, the lawful good Solamnic Knight.

These two characters have never gotten along simply because Sturm has always been suspicious of magic. He’s a knight; it’s to be expected. I’m not a huge fan of the Solamnic’s as they often have sticks up their rear ends. This was probably the biggest hiccup with Dragons of Deceit because Destina is Solamnic.

However, given her journey with Tasslehoff, Destina has grown into a great character. After the events of the last novel and the way the magic collided with the Grey Gem, Destina is why they have all been sent back in time to the third dragon war, where they meet their heroes, Huma and Magius.

I loved the pacing here and the way the characters are brought to life and balance one another out. And I loved the adventure!

This was just a page-turning novel, especially for someone familiar with the universe and the characters. By the end, my jaw was hanging open, and I was absolutely stunned.

Final Thoughts

I absolutely loved this novel and am so excited that Dragonlance is returning to bookstores. Weis and Hickman have done a fantastic job crafting this story. I can’t wait to read what happens next.
