Florida PolyCon 2025: A Day of Geek Culture, Creativity, and Community

 

On Saturday, March 15, 2025, Florida Polytechnic University hosted its 9th Annual Florida PolyCon, and it was nothing short of spectacular. From 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the campus buzzed with energy as students, faculty, and visitors from across the state came together to celebrate all things geek. This year’s event, bigger and better than ever, showcased the university’s commitment to fostering a vibrant, inclusive community while celebrating the diverse interests of its student body. From cosplay and gaming to panels and performances, Florida PolyCon 2025 was a day filled with fun, creativity, and unforgettable memories.

A Celebration of Geek Culture

Florida PolyCon 2025 was a grand celebration of geek culture, welcoming everyone from anime fans and tabletop gamers to tech lovers and cosplayers. The event, entirely student-run, highlighted the creativity, leadership, and teamwork of Florida Poly’s student body. With a mission to build culture, strengthen tradition, and increase retention, Florida PolyCon succeeded in bringing people together through shared passions and interests.

Highlights of the Day

The event was packed with activities, panels, and performances that catered to every kind of geek. Here are some of the standout moments from Florida PolyCon 2025:

  • Artist Alley and Merchant Hall: The IST Hallways and BARC Atrium were filled with talented artists and vendors offering everything from handmade crafts to rare collectibles. Attendees browsed unique artwork, picked up one-of-a-kind items, and supported local creators.
  • Dungeons & Dragons and Tabletop Gaming: The IST-1015 room hosted drop-in Dungeons & Dragons one-shots, while the IST-1014 room was the site of a thrilling Warhammer: Killteam tournament. Tabletop gamers of all skill levels came together to roll dice, strategize, and share their love of the hobby.
  • Itasha Car Showcase: Outside the BARC building, a dazzling display of Itasha cars—vehicles decorated with anime and gaming artwork—drew crowds of admirers. The vibrant designs and attention to detail made this a fan-favorite attraction.
  • Panels and Workshops: Throughout the day, panels and workshops provided opportunities for learning and discussion. Highlights included “The Parallels between Mental Health and Arcane,” “Foam Wigs: Creating and Styling,” and “Disabilities and Cosplay.” These sessions sparked meaningful conversations and inspired attendees to explore new creative avenues.
  • Idolfest and Music Performances: The Main Stage came alive with performances by the Music Association Band and Idolfest, a celebration of idol culture. Attendees sang along, danced, and enjoyed the high-energy performances.
  • Purple Fire Robotics Demonstration: In the IST-1017 room, the Purple Fire Robotics team showcased their latest creations, demonstrating the intersection of technology and creativity. The demonstration was a testament to Florida Poly’s innovative spirit.

A Community United

What made Florida PolyCon 2025 truly special was its sense of community. The event brought together people of all ages and backgrounds, united by their love of geek culture. Whether attendees were competing in tournaments, exploring the Artist Alley, or simply enjoying the atmosphere, the sense of camaraderie was palpable. Florida PolyCon succeeded in its mission to foster a loving and accepting community, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
