Jax Pop Con is back and bigger than ever! Volume 2 of this free, all-ages celebration of pop culture is taking over the Main Library next Saturday, March 22, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Whether you’re into comics, movies, tabletop games, anime, or video games, there’s something for every fan.
Dressing up is highly encouraged, so pull out that cape, dust off the armor, and step into the world of your favorite characters. Whether it’s a superhero, a space wizard, a classic movie monster, or an original D&D creation, Jax Pop Con is the perfect place to show off your fandom.
Cosplay Contests and Kids Costume Parade
Younger fans (ages 11 and under) can join the Kids Costume Parade at 1 p.m. in the Children’s Room on the second floor. It’s a fun and relaxed way for kids and their families to enjoy the spotlight.
For those 12 and older looking for a little competition, head to the Main Stage at Zimmerman Overlook on the first floor. The cosplay contests, hosted by Folio Weekly’s “Best of Jax 2023” cosplayer Countess Alyx, kick off at 3 p.m.
The “Runway Category” starts at 3 p.m. for anyone wearing a store-bought or commissioned costume. At 3:30 p.m., the “Craft Category” highlights handmade costumes and props, giving talented creators a chance to showcase their work. Bragging rights and fun prizes are on the line, so bring your best.
Special Guests and Exciting Events
This year’s guest lineup is stacked with artists, authors, and creators from the world of comics, fantasy, and gaming. Fantasy author Django Wexler will be on hand, along with Extra Life, a program benefiting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. So Much More Than Just Costumes
Jax Pop Con isn’t just about dressing up. The day is packed with exciting activities, including video game tournaments, D&D one-shot adventures, anime screenings, panel discussions, and a Lit Chat author interview. Special programs include a Pokémon-themed session for teens and an “Evolution of Fandom” panel discussion geared toward teens and adults. Young attendees can also enjoy a special storytime for ages five and under, along with plenty of crafts, board games, and drop-in activities.
This free event is open to the public, but bringing a library card (or signing up for one) is a great way to take full advantage of everything available.
