Miami Zine Fair Brings Independent Publishing to the Design District

The Miami Zine Fair is back this weekend, and it’s bringing the heat to Paradise Plaza in the Miami Design District. On Saturday, April 19, from 12 PM to 5 PM, the plaza transforms into a vibrant hub of self-published creativity. This free event is a chance to dive into the wild, wonderful world of zines and celebrate the DIY spirit that’s been going strong for ten years thanks to EXILE Books.

More than 100 creators will be on site, showcasing everything from comic books and poetry collections to political pamphlets and experimental art prints. It’s an open invitation to explore independent voices and bold expressions, all bound in stapled pages and folded covers. Whether you’re deep into the zine scene or just curious about what it’s all about, this fair offers a rare look into the minds of artists who prefer to tell their stories on their own terms.

For longtime fans of zine culture, this fair is more than just a cool afternoon in the city. It’s a throwback to the days when printing at the local copy shop and handing out pages at punk shows was a rite of passage. Some still remember what it felt like to cut and paste every page, then drop stacks off at places like A & M Comics or Y & T Records. It was messy, personal, and pure—something that still echoes in every table at the Miami Zine Fair.

The setting couldn’t be better. Paradise Plaza provides an open, inviting space right in the heart of the Design District. It’s a spot that brings together artists, collectors, and curious wanderers in a laid-back but creative environment. Expect conversations to spark over folded paper and photocopied images. Expect to meet people who are passionate about storytelling in all its raw and handmade glory.

This year marks a decade of EXILE championing independent publishing in Miami. Through workshops, pop-up events, and collaborative projects, EXILE has built a community that thrives on experimentation and access. The fair is a reflection of that legacy, bringing together voices from all over the region and beyond to share what they’ve made—no gatekeepers, no rules, just paper and passion.

If there’s ever been a time to reconnect with that energy or discover it for the first time, this is it. Whether you’re into comics, essays, photography, collage, or something that defies definition, there’s something here waiting to grab your attention.

Make plans to swing by Paradise Plaza on Saturday. Flip through the work, talk to the artists, take something home. The zine world is alive and well in Miami, and it’s inviting anyone who’s curious to come take a look.
