The buzz around Bug Wars is getting louder—and with good reason. The second issue of this breakout hit has already sold out at the distributor level, but don’t worry. Whether you’re a longtime Jason Aaron fan or just love weird fantasy with serious stakes, there’s still time to catch up before things really go off the rails.
Hey comic lovers! Let’s talk about Bug Wars. If this series isn’t already on your radar, it’s time to fix that.
Created by the dream team Jason Aaron (Southern Bastards, TMNT, Absolute Superman) and Mahmud Asrar (Conan the Barbarian, X-Men, Batman & Robin), Bug Wars is absolutely buzzing right now (pun fully intended). The second issue has sold out at the distributor level, which is huge—but the good news? A reprint is already coming, so no one gets left behind.
This series is just… wild. It follows Slade Slaymaker, a kid from Alabama who suddenly finds himself trapped in a brutal, hidden world inside his own backyard. We’re talking ant armies, spider witches, beetle-riding barbarians—the works. It’s like Honey, I Shrunk the Kids but darker, grittier, and way more intense.
In Bug Wars #2, Slade is held prisoner by the Mytes, a fierce tribe of bug-riding warriors. And deep in Swarm City—yep, that’s a place—he has to figure out how to unleash mysterious new powers or risk losing his family. No pressure, right?
“Ant armies, spellcasting spider witches, beetle-riding barbarians… and one terrified kid caught in the middle.”
The world-building here is incredible. There are layers of lore packed into every issue, including backmatter that gives even more insight into the creepy-crawly world of the Yard. And the creators are honestly just as excited as the fans.
“Thank you for embracing these bugs!”
— Jason Aaron
“We have so much more that we’ll explore and discover in Bug Wars.”
— Mahmud Asrar
