This Comic About a Fashion School Serial Killer Is Slaying Me

Okay sooo… have you heard about I Was a Fashion School Serial Killer? Because OMG, it’s an absolute killer (pun very much intended) and I am low-key losing my mind over it.

This wild, campy, blood-drenched horror comic just dropped its first issue last month—and y’all, it has been SOLD OUT for weeks. Like, completely. People grabbed it faster than a vintage leather jacket at a sample sale. Luckily, Image Comics is already rushing a second printing to save us latecomers, and yes, I already begged my shop to hold me a copy.

Let me back up real quick and tell you what it’s about because the premise is so over-the-top I screamed.

Meet Rennie Bethary. She just got into New York City’s most prestigious fashion school. Yay! She’s super talented and her designs are edgy, unique, and like nothing anyone’s seen before. The catch? They’re made out of human skin. Yep. She’s a literal serial killer who just wants to be a fashion designer instead. Relatable? No. Entertaining? Absolutely.

The creative team behind this madness is Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard—you might know them from Plastic (another bananas comic). And they’re just as shocked as we are by how fast this first issue blew up.

Doug said, “I’m blown away by the response”—and honestly, same. And Daniel? He said he’s “scratching his head trying to find another way to say blown away.” Cuties.

So here’s what you need to know if you want to jump into this gloriously gory fashion nightmare:
