In May 2020, I had the pleasure of sitting down for a conversation with Russell Mofsky—an incredibly talented songwriter and guitarist known for his work with Quit, Gold Dust Lounge, and King Friday. Our interview dives deep into Russ’s journey, starting with his early days growing up in Miami.
We talked about everything from childhood memories and musical influences to his love of skateboarding, which was as much a part of his world as the local punk scene. And of course, we couldn’t skip over his time in one of Florida’s most legendary punk bands—Quit. If you were around during that era, you know just how impactful Quit was in shaping the South Florida punk sound.
Russ walked me through the band’s history, from those raw early days to the height of their influence. After Quit, his path led him north to Boston for a time, before eventually finding his way back to South Florida.
These days, Russ is still creating beautiful, genre-defying music. He shared with me how his love for jazz, surf, and exotica began to influence his playing—and how those styles ultimately shaped his current project, Gold Dust Lounge. His sound has evolved, but his passion for music remains just as strong as ever.
If you’re into punk history, innovative guitar work, or just love hearing from musicians who’ve carved out their own path, this is a story worth checking out.
