Popeye Crashes Into I Hate Fairyland This October!

This October, Popeye will officially appear in I Hate Fairyland #45, published by Image Comics. The issue is written by Skottie Young and illustrated by guest cartoonist Jay Fosgitt. This marks the first time the classic cartoon character joins the world of I Hate Fairyland, following his recent entry into the public domain.

Jay Fosgitt takes on both the interior art and two of the issue’s covers. Cover A and a red-tinted variant Cover B are both drawn by Fosgitt. Cover C, a 1:10 incentive variant, is created by series creator Skottie Young.

The story follows Gert and her sidekick Larry as they search the ocean for a monstrous creature who may hold the secret to sending Gert home. Their quest leads them into dangerous waters, and Popeye steps in to help when they’re outmatched.

This crossover continues a trend in the series of bringing well-known characters into Fairyland. Previous issues have featured versions of characters like Dorothy, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, and even a Steamboat Willie-style mouse.

I Hate Fairyland #45 will be available in comic shops on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

Earlier issues of I Hate Fairyland are available in print at comic stores, bookstores, and online retailers. Digital editions are offered through Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.
