Silverline Comics has signed a distribution deal with PhilBo Distribution. The publisher, founded by former Malibu Comics and Marvel Comics editor Roland Mann, made the move after Diamond’s reliability became an issue.
Mann has been looking for a strong replacement distributor, and PhilBo fit what they needed. The current PhilBo catalog, Philviews, already has two Silverline titles available. Kayless is a sci-fi/action story written by Brent Larson with art by Luis Czerniawski and Leandro Huergo. The Mantus Files is a trade paperback collection of the black and white mini-series written by horror novelist Sidney Williams.
Both titles ship in March. The issues are completed and ready to go, with digital files already at Ka-Blam for printing. That’s part of how Silverline operates—they finish books before soliciting them to comic shops, guaranteeing on-time delivery.
Silverline publishes several titles a year through the traditional direct market and crowdfunding. Mann founded the company years ago out of a love for comics and stories. Running an independent comic book company means he doesn’t have to pitch projects. He can make his own comics and publish with friends.
PhilBo Distribution was founded by Phillip Russertt, who got tired of gatekeepers deciding who had access to the direct market. Knowing Diamond was heading toward collapse, he decided to be part of the solution. PhilBo now carries titles from more than 25 direct market publishers. Retailers new to PhilBo can order comics from earlier catalogs as well.
Russertt sees the partnership as a good fit. Silverline brings quality storytelling, strong art, and the wisdom and experience of Mann’s decades in the industry.
