Ghost Machine is launching a five-issue Official Guidebook miniseries in April from Image Comics. The series breaks down more than 120 characters across Ghost Machine’s four interconnected universes, with text and art by Geoff Johns, Jason Fabok, Gary Frank, Bryan Hitch, Ivan Reis, Peter J. Tomasi, Brad Anderson, and more.
The guidebook covers The Unnamed universe, which includes Geiger, Redcoat, Junkyard Joe, and First Ghost. It digs into Rook: Exodus and its science-fiction setting. Hyde Street gets its spotlight, featuring the Residents of a nightmarish dimension. The Unbelievables universe appears too, covering The Rocketfellers, Hornsby & Halo, the upcoming The Trillion Dollar Kid, and characters making their debut.
Brian Cunningham, Ghost Machine’s Editor-in-Chief, talks about growing up with encyclopedic comics. When he wanted to know something about a character, those guidebooks were where he went. He’d discover characters he’d never seen before and then track down their comics. That’s what this guidebook is designed to do for Ghost Machine’s universe.
The first two issues focus on The Unnamed Universe with Geiger, Redcoat, and others. Issue three covers The Unbelievables, featuring The Rocketfellers, Hornsby & Halo, and new characters appearing for the first time. Issue four spotlights Rook: Exodus and its sci-fi universe. Issue five visits Hyde Street and its horror dimension Residents.
If you read Who’s Who in the DC Universe or The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, this is built for you. Each issue comes with three covers. Cover A by Gary Frank and Brad Anderson shows the character lineup. Cover B by Bryan Hitch and Brad Anderson is an homage to The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe. Cover C by Ivan Reis, Danny Miki, and Brad Anderson pays tribute to Who’s Who in the DC Universe.
Ghost Machine launched at New York Comic Con in October 2023 as a creator collective. The founding creators jointly own and run the company, sharing in publishing, media, merchandising, and licensing. The roster includes Geoff Johns, Jason Fabok, Gary Frank, Bryan Hitch, Ivan Reis, Peter J. Tomasi, Brad Anderson, and others. Recently they added artists Leila Leiz, Francis Portela, and inkers Andrew Currie and Danny Miki on exclusive deals.
Ghost Machine: The Official Guidebook #1 hits comic shops on April 1st 2026.
