Looking for that perfect blend of nostalgia and superhero action? Marvel Cosmic Invasion might just scratch that itch. This arcade-style brawler lets you play as 15 different Marvel heroes, each with their own fighting style and special moves. After beating the game and unlocking all four secret characters, I’ve got some thoughts about what works and what doesn’t.

What makes Cosmic Invasion so appealing to someone like me is that it’s an absolute love letter to those old coin-op beat-em-ups from the 80s and 90s. If you ever pumped quarters into Captain America and the Avengers, Spider-Man, Superman, The Punisher, or the X-Men arcade game, you know exactly what this feels like. It’s a side-scrolling brawler in the same vein as Altered Beast and Final Fight, games that basically defined an entire era of arcade culture.
I went into this game knowing it was bad but figured I’d give it the benefit of the doubt because it’s been over a year so maybe it got polished up since then.
Kong: Survivor Instinct is a 2d platformer set after Godzilla vs Kong but before Godzilla x Kong. The first game I compared this to in my head was the original Prince of Persia
