“Wisconsin Death Trip” 20th Anniversary Tour
(Memorial Tribute to Wayne Static)
Industrial/alternative metal band Static-X put on an incredible show last Friday night at Revolution Live, bringing in a full house of avid long-time fans who were there not only to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band’s 1999 platinum-selling album “Wisconsin Death Trip”, but to pay tribute to the band’s founder and former front-man, singer/guitarist Wayne Static who the band tragically lost in 2014. In Wayne Static’s place, appeared masked and unidentified singer/guitarist “XerO”, together with the band’s original members, who include guitarist Koichi Fukuda, bassist Tony Campos, and drummer Ken Jay, who reunited for the tour and to release a new album.
Static-X’s show was strong and full of intensity and power, setting off the crowd into a frenzy of moshing, crowd surfing, jumping and dancing throughout the show. Although there could never be a replacement for Wayne Static, the mysterious new front-man “XerO”, with Wayne Static’s signature spiked hair, far from let the crowd down. He seemed to blend perfectly together with the solid backing of the band’s original band members, allegorically carrying on the legacy of Wayne Static. The band has made it well-known that it was never intended for the new front-man to take Wayne Static’s place, but to be there in spirit of Wayne’s memory. The show ended with a heart-felt commemorative by the band to Wayne Static, which brought the crowd together and left behind a true feel-good positive vibe.
Static-X was formed in Los Angeles in the mid-90s, after Wayne Static and Ken Jay were introduced to each other in Chicago by Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. Static-X proceeded to release 6 studio albums with their last release being in 2009. The band is on the verge of releasing their first new album “Project Regeneration” on May 29, 2020, which will contain unreleased recordings of Wayne Static.
