Cosplayer Interview

Cosplayer Of The Week: Katrina Tecxidor AKA Geek Unique Cosplay

leo Nocedo: How did you discover cosplaying?
Katrina Tecxidor: Randomly through mutual friends. Someone got me a ticket to Megacon Orlando and I was hooked!

leo Nocedo: What was your first cosplay?
Katrina Tecxidor:Pinup Sailor Girl

leo Nocedo: What are your next 3 cosplay plans?
Katrina Tecxidor: Batgirl Rebirth style, Quira from the Solo movie, and an update on my Wonder Woman (needs some new armour and parts)

leo Nocedo: Have you ever been in a cosplay contest?
Katrina Tecxidor: I have!

leo Nocedo: Do you prefer sewing, armor making, or wig working?
Katrina Tecxidor: I get my costumes made for me at this time. I’ve helped people to make cosplay armour before and very much enjoyed it. I wouldn’t call myself a cosplay builder though. I leave that to the talented amazing experts in our local cosplay community.

leo Nocedo: Do you prefer to do photoshoots at cons or at specific locations?
Katrina Tecxidor: Either or but location shoots tend to be more creative for me. You can do a lot more when you can control your environment.

leo Nocedo: Is there a type of character you cosplay frequently?
Katrina Tecxidor: Batgirl! I love my DC characters and she is my favorite.

leo Nocedo: Do you have any favorite cosplayers?
Katrina Tecxidor:  So, so, many! To name a few:
Cosplay Tonya, Poetic Steam Hippie, Rage Cosplay

leo Nocedo: What’s the most detailed cosplay you’ve ever done?
Katrina Tecxidor: Tron Batgirl

leo Nocedo: What are your top 3 craftsmanship tips?
Katrina Tecxidor: Don’t be afraid to take risks, don’t give up, and if you can dream up the cosplay trust me it can be done!

leo Nocedo: What is your favorite cosplay you’ve done?
Katrina Tecxidor:  New 52 Batgirl. At this point that costume feels like a second skin. I love it so much!

leo Nocedo: What is your worst cosplay “horror” story?
Katrina Tecxidor: My armour falling off at Megacon. I’m walking to a panel and the whole thing fell apart piece by piece. Super disappointing!

leo Nocedo: What’s your funniest cosplay story?
Katrina Tecxidor:  I’d say it was Megacon Orlando 2017 when I did a Batgirl/Killing Joke Parody video

leo Nocedo: What’s the best in-character interaction you’ve ever had?
Katrina Tecxidor:  A Free Comicbook Day event at A Comic Shop a couple years ago. I was dressed as Supergirl and a little girl came up to me freaking out like I was a celebrity. She told me she was a “big fan of me” and was at that age where she thought Supergirl (me in this case) was real. It was one of the sweetest moments ever!

leo Nocedo: Have you ever cosplayed with a family member?
Katrina Tecxidor: Not yet, but that would be cool!

leo Nocedo: What is your favorite cosplay photo of yourself?
Katrina Tecxidor: Probably my profile photo on my cosplay page www.facebook.com/GeekUniqueCosplay

leo Nocedo: What are your go-to stores for cosplay materials/full cosplays?
Katrina Tecxidor:  I buy them from cosplay builders so I don’t shop for materials. My costume builders tell me Hobby Lobby, Amazon, and Walmart are some places they go.

leo Nocedo: Do you prefer to buy pre-styled wigs or style your own?
Katrina Tecxidor:  I like pre styled unless I have a specific character I wanna make myself. Most times pre styled.

leo Nocedo: Have you ever had someone mistake you for a different character?
Katrina Tecxidor:  When I did Knightmare Batgirl (The Batgirl version of “Knightmare Batman” from BvS) people thought it we steampunk Batgirl instead.

leo Nocedo: List all the cosplays you’ve done.
Katrina Tecxidor:  Here are all the cosplays I can thinking that I’ve done: New 52 Batgirl, Pre New 52 Batgirl, Jedi Batgirl, Tron Batgirl, “Man of Steel” style Supergirl, Pre New 52 Wonder Woman, Elektra, Daenerys Targaryen (Season 7), Daenrys (Season 3), Cat, Anime School Girl, Steampunk Character (my own), Pinup Sailer Girl, Black Canary, and several more that I can’t think of right now haha!

leo Nocedo: What’s the biggest con you’ve cosplayed at?
Katrina Tecxidor: DragonCon in Atlanta

leo Nocedo: Do you prefer cosplaying characters with props, or characters that you don’t need to carry a prop around all day?
Katrina Tecxidor: I love props!
