It didn’t take long for The Karman Blade #1 to disappear at the distributor level.
The new dark fantasy series from Darcy Van Poelgeest and Ian Bertram, the Eisner Award-winning creative team behind Little Bird and Precious Metal, has completely sold out at distribution, prompting Image Comics to send the debut issue back for a second printing.
The new printing will give readers another opportunity to jump into the strange world Van Poelgeest and Bertram have created, and it comes with a brand-new cover by James Stokoe.
The Karman Blade follows a young man living on the outskirts of a dying desert world who is chosen by a blade forged from the stars. His task isn’t exactly a small one. He must kill the deity Kalu and free the water being hoarded within Kalu’s kingdom. Before any of that can happen, however, the young man has to confront his own demons and decide if he can answer the blade’s call.
Van Poelgeest said he was thankful that the unusual new series had found an audience beyond what he expected and praised Stokoe’s new artwork as a fitting way to celebrate the response.
Readers who missed the debut will be able to pick up The Karman Blade #1 Second Printing on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
The story continues shortly afterward with The Karman Blade #2 arriving Wednesday, October 14. The second issue will be offered with covers by Bertram and Matt Hollingsworth, Tradd Moore and additional incentive variants by Bertram.
With the first issue already gone at distribution, October gives readers another chance to answer the call of The Karman Blade and see where this strange dark fantasy journey is headed.
