Military HeroCon Brings Anime Voice Actors to MacDill Air Force Base

Imagine stopping by the Base Exchange and finding yourself face-to-face with someone whose voice you’ve heard in one of your favorite anime series.

That’s exactly the kind of surprise Military HeroCon has planned for MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa.

From October 16–18, 2026, Military HeroCon will bring a little comic convention fun to the military community, with celebrity guests, autograph opportunities, photo ops, and a chance to meet some of the people behind familiar animated characters.

And this isn’t your typical convention setup.

Military HeroCon was created with service members and their families in mind. Instead of asking military personnel to travel to a large convention center, the event brings the experience directly onto the base.

The announced guest lineup includes Phil Parsons, Lindsay Sheppard, and John Gremillion, voice actors whose work spans anime and video games, including franchises such as Dragon Ball Z, Attack on Titan, Zenless Zone Zero, and Vampire Hunter D.

For anime fans who have spent years watching these shows, getting to meet the performers behind the characters is a pretty cool opportunity. There’s something entertaining about hearing a familiar voice coming from the actual person standing in front of you.

And for military families, it’s a chance to enjoy a little pop culture entertainment without having to leave the base.

Military HeroCon is also a way to recognize the men and women who serve, giving them and their families an opportunity to enjoy something different during their day.

The event takes place at the Main Exchange at MacDill Air Force Base, 3108 N Boundary Boulevard, Tampa, Florida 33621.

Admission is free for those with valid base access. Because MacDill is an active military installation, the event is not open to the general public without authorized access.

Military HeroCon may not have the sprawling convention halls of a traditional comic con, but that’s part of what makes the concept interesting.

It’s bringing the guests to the people who might not otherwise have the opportunity to meet them.

And for a few days in October, a routine trip to the Exchange might come with an unexpected anime encounter.
