Cosplayer Interview

Cosplayer of the week : Katherine Krause

Leo Nocedo : How did you discover cosplaying?
Katherine Krause : I discovered cosplay back in 2012 from my best friend who took me to SuperCon. Once I started, I got hooked!
Leo Nocedo : What was your first cosplay?
Katherine Krause : Sayoran Li from Tsubasa Chronicles
Leo Nocedo : What are your next 3 cosplay plans?
Katherine Krause : Injustice 2 Black Canary, Shinobu Kochou (Demon Slayer), and Kairi from Kingdom Hearts 2.
Leo Nocedo : Have you ever been in a cosplay contest?
Katherine Krause : Yes I have! I won 3rd place at UltraCon 2019 for Poison Ivy.
Leo Nocedo : Do you prefer sewing, armor making, or wig working?
Katherine Krause : I actually prefer detailing. I enjoy talking plain pieces and working out what can I use material wise or with accessories, makeup, shoes, etc. to enhance the look of my character.
Leo Nocedo : Do you prefer to do photoshoots at cons or at specific locations?
Katherine Krause : I prefer at cons, but am open to specific locations.
Leo Nocedo : Is there a type of character you cosplay frequently?
Katherine Krause : Princess Jasmine from Aladdin (2019).
Leo Nocedo : Do you have any favorite cosplayers?
Katherine Krause : Absolutely! Alyson Tabbitha, Phil Mizuno, KosplayKev, and of course The Gotham Underground Cosplay family.
Leo Nocedo : What’s the most detailed cosplay you’ve ever done?
Katherine Krause : Poison Ivy from Batman & Robin (1999)
Leo Nocedo : What are your top 3 craftsmanship tips?
Katherine Krause : Take your time working with glue, I like to do a simple stitch when using fabric glue to help it adhere to fabrics, and when spray painting make sure to do it outside and away from buildings! I accidentally got the side of my house gold when spray painting.

Katherine Krause : Princess Jasmine from Aladdin (2019).

Katherine Krause : Thankfully I haven’t had one!
Leo Nocedo : What’s the best in-character interaction you’ve ever had?
Katherine Krause : As Harley Quinn at SuperCon 2019. I’m good at improv and being able to immediately jump into character at any cosplayer who passed by and making comments came to me naturally. It was so much fun!
Leo Nocedo : Have you ever cosplayed with a family member?
Katherine Krause : Not with my blood-related family no.

Leo Nocedo : What is your favorite cosplay photo of yourself?
Katherine Krause : Cinderella (2015)

Katherine Krause : I actually use AliExpress for a lot of my cosplays but also like MiccoCostumes for full cosplays.

Katherine Krause : Pre-Styled is nicer but sometimes you have to still style it to make it more to the character.
Leo Nocedo : Have you ever had someone mistake you for a different character?
Katherine Krause : Oh yeah! At SYFY Bartow as Supergirl I was called Wonder Woman, Captain America, Captain Marvel, and Superwoman.
