Lost Fantasy Sells Out Again, Gets Metal Gear Solid Homage Cover for Reprint

Comic book fans have been buzzing about Curt Pires’ Lost Fantasy, and for good reason. The series has once again sold out completely at the distributor level, prompting Image Comics to fast-track issue #2 for another reprint to meet the overwhelming demand from readers and retailers alike.

The supernatural thriller has struck a chord with audiences who are hungry for fresh takes on fantasy storytelling. Lost Fantasy presents a world where magic, myth, and monsters exist beneath the surface of our reality. For over a century, The Great Hunters have protected humanity from creatures that lurk in the shadows. But when something breaks through their defenses, rookie monster hunter Henry Blackheart must face threats beyond his imagination.

Series creator Curt Pires couldn’t be happier about the continued success. “I’m ecstatic to be going back to print on Lost Fantasy #2,” said Pires. “To thank our amazing readers and retail partners, we’re delivering another heavily-requested homage for new readers and collectors alike—this time we pay tribute to the amazing PS1 classic: Metal Gear Solid. Team Lost Fantasy is excited and grateful to continue growing this book!”

The Metal Gear Solid tribute cover demonstrates Pires’ understanding of his audience, creating collectible variants that resonate with both comic and gaming enthusiasts. It’s this kind of thoughtful fan service that has helped build Lost Fantasy’s devoted following.

Issue #2 raises the stakes considerably as a new hunter arrives to investigate the mysterious killings in Montana. Meanwhile, Henry fights for his life while confronting a painful truth about those closest to him. The series expertly balances supernatural action with genuine emotional depth, creating stories that feel both thrilling and meaningful.

Critics have taken notice of what Pires and artist Luca Casalanguida have accomplished. Graphic Policy praised how the series “plays all the Chosen One beats in a slice of life setting before overturning the apple cart and setting up a dark, mysterious future. It strikes the right balance between action and worldbuilding with Pires and Casalanguida creating a proper alternate history world.”

AIPT called it “an ambitious genre mash-up that boldly reimagines history through the lens of magic and monster-hunting, offering rich world-building and energetic action.” The praise has been consistently positive, with Nerd Initiative declaring simply: “This is a series that everyone should read.”

The series has drawn comparisons to beloved gaming franchises, with ComicsOnline noting that “its story and various design elements include undertones reminiscent of Final Fantasy and Legend of Zelda (a winning combination), and the cliffhanger ending will leave you clamoring for more.” This gaming influence helps Lost Fantasy appeal to readers beyond traditional comic book audiences.

GonkBonk has suggested the series “sets the stage for what could be Image Comics’ next big hit,” and the consistent sellouts support that prediction. In a crowded marketplace, Lost Fantasy has managed to carve out its own unique space by combining familiar fantasy elements with fresh storytelling approaches.

Readers eager to catch up can find Lost Fantasy #2’s second printing at comic book shops on July 30, 2025. Issue #3 arrives earlier on July 23, featuring multiple cover variants including artwork by Luca Casalanguida and Alex Diotto, plus special incentive covers for collectors. The series is also available digitally through Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.

Given the rapid sellouts, fans and retailers are advised to pre-order or reserve copies to avoid disappointment. Lost Fantasy appears to be building the kind of passionate readership that sustains successful series, and with the creative team’s clear dedication to quality storytelling, this looks like just the beginning of what could be a truly memorable comic book run.

The success of Lost Fantasy proves that original stories still have the power to capture readers’ imaginations when they’re crafted with care and genuine passion. Sometimes that’s all it takes to create something special in the world of comics.
