Robert Kirkman and David Finch’s Skinbreaker is getting collected in two massive deluxe hardcover editions from Skybound and Image Comics. Both versions collect the full eight-issue run in Treasury-sized format at 8.5″ by 13.5″. You can grab it in full color with Annalisa Leoni’s colors, or in black and white if you want to see Finch’s line work without any distractions. Rus Wooton handled lettering on both editions.
The series has been performing well since it launched back in September 2025. Issue one sold out and went to a second printing, which tells you people are connecting with it. Kirkman and Finch created something different here. This is straight-up brutal action in a savage world where survival isn’t guaranteed and leadership comes at a serious cost.
The story centers on Enor, a chieftain who’s led his tribe for years but is reaching the end of his time. He wields the Skinbreaker, this legendary weapon that’s supposed to be the symbol of power, but at his age he can barely lift the thing anymore. His heir is Anok, who isn’t exactly jumping at the chance to take over. As a power struggle kicks off within the tribe, there’s an even bigger threat lurking in the darkness beyond their village.
The Treasury-sized presentation makes sense for this book. Finch’s art is detailed and dynamic, with fight sequences that need room to breathe and creature designs that deserve to be seen at scale. Sean Mackiewicz from Skybound called it the finest work of Finch’s career, which is saying something considering Finch’s resume includes Batman and New Avengers.
Both the color and black and white editions have their appeal. The color version adds atmosphere and helps sell the fantasy setting. The black and white version lets you focus on Finch’s line work, seeing exactly how he constructs panels and builds action sequences. For anyone who’s been waiting to read the series, the hardcover editions are the way to go. You get the complete story, the oversized presentation that does justice to the art, and a format that’s built to last on your shelf.
