I’ll admit something right away—I was never a huge Youngblood reader. Growing up, most of my comic collection came from DC and Marvel. That said, I’ve always respected Rob Liefeld and what he accomplished. As one of the founding Image creators, he helped reshape the comic industry, introduced characters that are still popular today, and has managed to keep creating despite decades of criticism. Anyone who can laugh at themselves enough to let the “can’t draw feet” joke make its way into Deadpool & Wolverine deserves some credit.

That brings me to Badrock #1, and I have to say, this comic surprised me.

Written by Rob Liefeld with artwork by Seth Damoose, the issue keeps things refreshingly simple. When Badrock’s mother is kidnapped, he’s forced into a dangerous situation that quickly sets the story in motion. It doesn’t try to reinvent superheroes—it just tells an entertaining story with plenty of action and heart.

Reading it actually reminded me of Marvel’s 1987 Solo Avengers series. Those books gave established heroes a chance to step out from the team and carry a story on their own, and Badrock #1 has that same kind of energy. It feels less like a massive crossover and more like a fun character spotlight, which I really appreciated.

The biggest reason the book works, though, is Seth Damoose’s artwork. Every page is packed with energy, expressive characters, and dynamic action. His style fits the larger-than-life world perfectly while still giving the comic its own identity. More than once I caught myself lingering on a page just to admire the artwork.

This is also the most I’ve enjoyed a Youngblood-related comic in quite some time. It captures the over-the-top superhero fun that made early Image Comics stand out while delivering a tighter, more focused story than I expected.

Released by Image Comics on July 15, 2026, Badrock #1 is a fun solo debut that exceeded my expectations. If you’ve been curious about Badrock but never really connected with Youngblood, this is a great place to jump in.
