Joe Pruett and Philippe Xavier Reunite for The Territory

Sixteen years after civilization collapsed, the world has become a place where the strongest make the rules and everyone else struggles to survive.

That’s the setting for The Territory, a new five-issue post-apocalyptic comic book series from Image Comics arriving in January 2027.

Written by Eisner Award winner Joe Pruett (Viking Moon, Kilroy Is Here, Cable) and illustrated by French artist Philippe Xavier (Tango, Conquistador), the series follows Cooper and Sara, a man and a young girl brought together by chance in a world that has lost nearly everything.

With no memory of her past, Sara finds herself traveling alongside Cooper as the two are hunted across the dangerous wastelands of the Territory. Their unexpected connection holds a secret neither fully understands, and their journey will lead them toward a destiny neither could have imagined.

The story combines the harsh survival of The Road and Mad Max with the unlikely companionship of Lone Wolf and Cub, mixing action, revenge, and a little hope into a world that doesn’t offer much of it.

The project also marks a reunion for Pruett and Xavier, who first met in 1994 and began developing the comic in 2024. Their longtime friendship helped bring this post-apocalyptic Western to life.

Alongside Xavier’s artwork, the first issue will feature variant covers by Brandon Peterson, Joe Benitez, and Stevan Subic.

The Territory #1 arrives in comic book shops Wednesday, January 6, 2027. The 32-page debut issue will retail for $3.99, with digital editions also available.

For readers who enjoy bleak futures, dangerous journeys, and stories about finding something worth protecting when the rest of the world has fallen apart, The Territory might be worth adding to the pull list.

Because in a world where survival is everything, sometimes the person traveling beside you is the only thing keeping you alive.
