I’ve been following Transformers comics for years, and while there have been some great runs, I’m genuinely excited about what Robert Kirkman and Dan Mora are bringing to the table with issue #25. This oversized anniversary issue feels like the fresh start the series has been building toward.
Kirkman is the mastermind behind The Walking Dead and Invincible, and he has this amazing ability to take familiar concepts and make them feel completely new. Paired with Dan Mora’s gorgeous artwork from Justice League Unlimited, this creative team brings both the storytelling chops and visual flair that Transformers deserves. Mora’s robots have this perfect balance of mechanical detail and emotional expression that really brings these characters to life.
What’s got me most intrigued is the promise that Optimus Prime will be joining forces with “unlikely allies.” That suggests we’re moving beyond the traditional Autobot versus Decepticon formula into something more complex and interesting. The idea of Prime facing moral challenges and difficult alliances sounds like exactly the kind of character-driven storytelling that could elevate the series.
The solicitation also hints at major changes for the Decepticons and mentions that Prime’s biggest challenge “lies closer to home than he ever imagined.” Those kinds of personal, internal conflicts often make for the most compelling stories, especially when you’re dealing with characters who’ve been fighting the same war for millions of years.
Transformers #25 hits shelves October 8th, and it feels like the perfect jumping-on point whether you’re a longtime fan or new to the comics. Kirkman and Mora are clearly setting up something special here, and I’m excited to see where this new direction takes our favorite robots in disguise.
